FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you need to know before you buy — power and legality, fitment, delivery, UK stock and local fitting. Still stuck? Get in touch and we'll help.
Are your ebike conversion kits road legal in the UK?
Our higher-power kits go well beyond the UK 250W / 15.5mph limit for electrically assisted pedal cycles, so they are not legal for use on public roads, cycle paths or other public places.
They're sold for use on private land, or anywhere you have the legal right and permission to ride. It's the rider's responsibility to ride lawfully — please check your local regulations. See our Terms & Conditions for the full detail.
Will a conversion kit fit my bike?
Most standard bikes with 26", 27.5" or 29" wheels and common dropout widths (135mm, 142mm or 148mm) are compatible — you choose both when ordering.
Not sure? Send us your bike model and frame details through the contact page and we'll confirm compatibility before you buy.
What's included in a full conversion kit?
Everything needed to turn your bike electric, in one box: the rear hub motor laced into a wheel, a frame-fit triangle battery, the controller, a display, twist throttle, electric brake levers with motor cut-off, and a 1:1 intelligent pedal-assist (PAS). Nothing else to buy — just fit it and ride.
Should I choose a 52V or 72V battery?
72V gives more top-end speed and power; 52V is a little gentler and slightly cheaper. Both are held in our UK warehouse for fast shipping.
Want maximum performance? Go 72V. After a more relaxed, efficient ride? 52V is plenty. Ask us if you'd like a recommendation for how you ride.
What does “UK Stock” mean, and how fast is delivery?
Products tagged UK Stock are already in our UK warehouse — no waiting on overseas freight, which means lower shipping costs and much faster delivery (typically days, not weeks).
Items without the tag are made to order and ship from overseas, where you choose a sea (economy, included) or air (express) option at checkout, with delivery estimates shown there.
Do you fit the kit for me?
Yes — if you're in or around Penzance, you can bring your bike to us and we'll fit your kit (and any optional modifications). We don't travel to you; you drop the bike off and collect it ready to ride.
Arrange a date through the contact page and we'll confirm where to bring it. Modifications and upgrades are completely optional.
How much does fitting cost?
Labour is quoted per job, since it depends on your bike and what's involved. Send us your bike details and we'll give you a quote. If you just want the kit fitted, that's all you pay for.
Can I get a refund, or return my order?
We don't offer refunds for change of mind. However, if an item arrives faulty or is incompatible, we'll arrange a replacement or repair. Full details are in our Returns Policy — please contact us within the stated window.
Is my payment secure?
Yes. Payments are processed securely by Stripe, right on our own domain. Your card details are never seen or stored by Coastal E-Kits.
